Florfenicol has a very broad antibacterial spectrum, with a strong killing effect on Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as a strong antibacterial effect on anaerobic Gram-positive bacteria and negative spirochetes, rickettsia, amoeba protozoa, etc.

The in vitro and in vivo tests showed that its antibacterial activity was significantly superior to the current antibacterial drugs, such as chloramphenicol (banned), thiamphenicol, oxytetracycline, tetracycline and ampicillin, and the widely used quinolones. 

It can cross the blood-brain barrier, and has treatment effect better than that of other antibacterial drugs for bacterial meningitis in animals. 

It is recommended as first choice of drugs for swine plague, porcine infectious pleuropneumonia and haemophilus parasuis, especially for the treatment of bacteria resistant to fluoroquinolones and other antibacterial drugs.
